Online Teacher Visits

Online Teacher Visits

One of the most important practices we have at BCS is to provide teacher visits. Our online students through BCS select receive online visits with our licensed teachers and our BWA full-time students meet with their teachers in person. Visits generally take place every two weeks but can be changed based on family needs. We want every student to know they have staff who care about them, know their story, and will be there to help them through their education journey. BCS provides a lot of training and support for staff to run effective and helpful meetings with families. This practice sets us apart from many online schools or companies! Regardless of the format you will be taken care by our BCS Team! Below are some pictures of in person or online meetings with our teachers.

Progress Monitoring

Progress Monitoring

Progress monitoring is how we keep students and parents informed of exactly where students are and where they need to be. Generally this takes place in a live visit with our certified staff but may also be completed in the background as needed. Every two weeks our students receive a live meeting with teachers to review their progress in each course they are taking. Below is an example of one 10th grade US History class. Our custom Google Sheet will tell the student exactly how many lessons they need to complete by next week, how many they have left, their current grade, and if they are on/off pace. This powerful information can be used as a team with our families and educators to make informed decisions about students learning pathway.

At Baker Web Academy, courses come in MANY varieties! Though we have many choices, all courses have a home page in our LMS (Learner Management System), Canvas. Canvas is a dynamic tool that allows BWA staff to pull in content from providers like Florida Virtual School, Edynamics, Middlebury, and Rosetta Stone OR build our own courses. Even providers like Odyssey Ware and Acellus will have a companion page in Canvas. From a student view they can always see their bank of current classes and select which ones they want to work on. There is also a handy to do list on the right showing upcoming assignments. Once into the class, courses have a variety of appearances. Below are snapshots of FLVS US History, Odyssey Ware Chemistry, and Acellus Biology.

Acellus Biology Snapshot- Acellus is a video based curriculum that presents new information via video lessons from Acellus teachers. Students then respond to questions about the video through questions, quizzes, and tests. Students will also complete Canvas Projects to apply their learning through projects, essays, and papers. Acellus is very accessible and we find that most students are able to successful in the program regardless of their academic level.

Acellus- most Acellus questions are multiple choice or true/false. Students should take notes while watching the video and keep them to work on the questions.
