You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.

Andrea Schenk earned a BA in History from Gonzaga University.  Following graduation, she was hired to work in the field of Human Resources for Providence Health System.  She worked her way up to a position as a Healthcare Recruiter HR, specializing in employment and placements for all clinical areas except nursing.  While in this role, she continued to be “teaching” or training others.  Feeling like education was her calling, she transitioned into education to pursue a Masters in Education from Portland State University.
Since obtaining her license in 2003, Andrea has taught mainly in alternative education programs working with students who are credit deficient or who have already dropped out of high school (teaching primarily social studies, but tutoring in most other areas).  In addition, Andrea has helped students work on completing graduation requirement components (senior projects, CRLEs and Work Samples), and has much experience working to help those students successfully complete HS and move on to their next steps. Along with teaching, Andrea previously served as a board member of Smile Oregon from 2009-2015, a non-profit dedicated to the support of children affected by craniofacial conditions.
Aside from teaching, Andrea enjoys being a wife to her English teacher husband, and mother to her two daughters.  A native Oregonian, she enjoys traveling with her family and going on new adventures. She feels it is a great reward to see her students graduate and take their next steps in the world!
